Our mature lake in the centre of the paddock has always been a popular attraction for visitors, somewhere quite and secluded to relax and fish, some of our pitches and Pods are by the lake so you can even make tea whilst you fish.
Over the years, the lake has been gradually stocked with a number of fish species including, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Perch, Tench, Roach, and Rudd, these have established themselves well and as the lake is stream fed there is plenty of food and nutrients so they have grown well with carp between 10 and 16Ib being caught regularly and really give a good account of themselves in the deep water.
The carp can be caught from all swims on the lake but are especially fun to catch around the island on floating baits, we believe the largest resident carp is now over 20Ib and was last landed just under the 20Ib mark, she can often be seen on the surface just daring you to throw her a crust.
If carp fishing is not for you then why not ‘bag up’ on the good head of other species, perch to well over 1Ib and tench to 3Ib giving fine sport to the right tactics and we have even had the odd trout coming to the net, of course there’s always lots of tiddlers to keep the kids happy for hours.
One end of the lake is open with some easy access swims to provide a safe area for families with children to fish, whilst swims and the undergrowth around the island at the other end of the lake provide good stalking sport with floated baits cast both tight up against the island and close in under the over hanging vegetation.
Fishing is completely free to guests and campers staying on site and our Log Pods and Camping Barrels provide an ideal place to relax but still be close to the lake so that you can get in as much time with your favourite past time as you like without having to go far with lots of gear.
The Log Pods and Camping Barrels also provide all year round comfort if you like to fish during the colder months.
Fishing is open to both campsite residents and visitors alike, for visitors a fishing day-ticket costs £5 per person but if you are not staying with us please phone first to check availability and to book a swim as campsite residents are always given priority to ensure that the lake is never overcrowded. The lake is closed to non-residents during peak season.
To ensure that the fish stay in tip top condition we ask that the fish be handled carefully and returned as soon as possible (after photos of course) we also have a strict barbless hooks only policy.
